Product and Battery Safety

Last updated: 15 July 2026
Battery care

Use only compatible charging equipment and stop using a damaged battery.

Fire precautions

Keep charging away from escape routes and combustible materials.

No unauthorised repairs

Do not modify the battery, wiring, speed controls or folding structure.

Safety comes before performance

An electric scooter is a powered product containing a rechargeable battery. Safe handling, suitable charging equipment and prompt action when damage is detected are essential.

1

Scope and important limitations

This page provides general safety information for prospective and current users of an electric scooter. It does not replace the manufacturer’s manual, product-specific warnings, professional repair advice or emergency guidance.

The final seller should provide the operating manual, charger instructions and any product-specific safety documentation before or with the product.

Do not use, charge or transport a product that appears seriously damaged, swollen, burnt, leaking, unusually hot or affected by smoke or a strong chemical smell.

2

Checks before each use

Before using the scooter on permitted private land, check:

  • the frame, stem and folding mechanism for looseness, cracks or damage;
  • the handlebars, grips and controls are secure;
  • the tyres and wheels are in suitable condition;
  • the brakes operate correctly;
  • lights and reflectors work where fitted;
  • the battery and charger show no visible damage;
  • the intended area is suitable and permission has been obtained.

Stop using the product if a safety-critical part is loose, damaged or behaving abnormally.

3

Safe charging

Use only the charger confirmed by the manufacturer or seller as compatible with the exact product and battery.

  • Charge on a stable, dry and well-ventilated surface.
  • Keep the scooter, battery and charger away from combustible materials.
  • Do not charge where the scooter or cable blocks an exit or escape route.
  • Do not cover the charger or battery while charging.
  • Do not leave charging unattended or continue charging while asleep.
  • Allow the battery to cool after use before charging.
  • Do not use a damaged, wet, modified or incompatible charger.

Overcharging, incompatible chargers, physical damage and extreme temperatures can increase the risk of battery failure and fire.

4

Battery warning signs

Stop using and charging the product if you notice:

  • swelling, bulging, cracking or leakage;
  • unusual heat that does not quickly reduce;
  • hissing, popping or crackling sounds;
  • smoke, sparks or a strong unusual smell;
  • rapid loss of charge, repeated charging faults or unexpected shutdowns;
  • damage following impact, crushing, water exposure or a serious drop.

Do not open, puncture, crush or attempt a home repair of a lithium-ion battery.

5

Storage and temperature

Store the scooter and charger in a dry, secure and ventilated location, away from direct heat, open flames and flammable materials.

Avoid excessively hot, cold or damp environments. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on long-term charge level and recharge intervals.

Keep the product, battery, keys and charger away from children and unauthorised users.

6

Fire or serious battery failure

If the battery smokes, burns, vents gas or catches fire:

  • leave the area immediately;
  • do not place yourself at risk attempting to move the product;
  • close doors behind you where safe to do so;
  • call 999 and tell the operator that a lithium-ion battery may be involved;
  • do not re-enter until the emergency services say it is safe.

Lithium-ion battery fires can spread rapidly and may re-ignite. Personal safety and evacuation take priority over saving the product.

7

Repairs, parts and modifications

Use competent repair services and parts suitable for the exact product. Unauthorised modifications can create safety risks and may affect any warranty.

Do not change speed controls, battery management systems, wiring, charging connectors or structural components unless the manufacturer expressly authorises the work.

Wear items such as tyres and brake components should be inspected and replaced when necessary.

8

Battery disposal and recycling

Do not place an electric scooter battery in household waste or ordinary recycling. Use an appropriate battery or electrical-product collection service.

A damaged battery may require specialist handling. Contact the seller, manufacturer, local authority or an approved waste service before transporting it.

9

Safety questions

Contact the website team for help identifying the relevant seller or product-information source.

Safety enquiry

Do not use this email for an active fire or immediate emergency. Call 999 in an emergency.
